PLA Design Tips

Wall Thickness

Minimum 1.2mm for structural parts, 0.8mm for decorative. PLA is stiff but brittle — thin walls snap easily under load.

Overhangs & Supports

PLA prints well up to 50° overhangs without support. For steeper angles, use breakaway supports — PLA separates cleanly.

Bed Adhesion

PLA sticks well to most surfaces. A heated bed at 50-60°C with a clean PEI sheet gives reliable first layers without warping.

Post-Processing

PLA sands easily (start at 120 grit, work up to 400+). Can be primed and painted with acrylics. Avoid acetone — it doesn't smooth PLA.
